by Akol Ayii Madut & Bree

Who is Akol Ayii Madut?

a Sudanese Lost Boy who came to America in 2001, having spent nine years living in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya after serving as a boy soldier in the SPLA (Sudanese People's Liberation Army). He was in school when bombs devastated his village. No time to find mom and dad, he headed on foot with 27,000 other young boys and some adults in the direction of Ethiopia, where he could stay in relative safety for some years before needed to walk again. Imagine walking 1,000 miles as an eight year old. Akol was not alone and here in Cleveland, Ohio he has made a home with some fellow Lost Boys and many fine people in the greater community.
